Laely Heron spent her junior year in college in France, which lead to enrolling in the Enology program in Bordeaux. After graduation, she toured Europe and other winemaking countries looking for unique wines to represent back home.

She began in 1995, bringing in wines from the South of France. She was unique. First of all, a woman in the wine business was very uncommon. A woman carrying in wines nobody heard of was even rarer.

But, Laely wasn't just any girl. She knew wine inside and out. She had an engaging personality, and the wines she represented were stunning and high values. It didn't take long until she was one of the most recognized names in the wine business.

Being in San Francisco also meant exploring the wines of California. When it came time to produce her wines, she settled on Mendocino for ample reasons. The grapes were as good as Napa and Sonoma, and the prices were about half. We call that a no-brainer.

Our selection has an air of Europe in it, specifically Chablis. It sees no oak, is relatively low in alcohol, and does not go through malolactic fermentation, the process whereby the malic acid transforms into lactic acid. It is induced by adding a yeast culture to the wine, though at times, it can happen spontaneously.

By preserving the natural acids, the wine retains a crisp and snappy finish, which allows all the lovely apple, guava, and citrus flavors intact.
