Suspicion comes from winemaker Elvio Olave, made in his grand estate, Bodegas Las Pircas, in the prime region of Chile's Maipo Valley. Elvio is a third-generation winemaker, and the first to get his degree in both winemaking and horticulture.

He founded his own winery in 1996 with the goal of not only continuing the family tradition of quality, but surpassing it. He has done both. In a very short period of time, he has garnered more accolades than his peers. Most of his success, he says, is due to his understanding of the different soils that comprise the Maipo Valley and how to deal with them.

After all, the old adage that the wine is made in the vineyard has always remained true. The Maipo region of Chile has a Mediterranean style climate. Winter rains are mild, and summers are dry with marked temperature variations between day and night, thereby allowing the grapes to obtain superb tannin development as well as excellent aromas and color concentration.

French settlers brought grapes to Chile over 500 years ago. They also brought their expertise, which, at the time, was still more advanced than what was known in Chile then.

The results are clear. Chile has been known for great Cabernet for almost a century and this selection is testament to that. All the lovely black plum and cherry exist along with the medium tannins and an earthy, vibrant finish.
