Root Cause is owned by O'Neill Vintners, which was founded in 2004 by Jeff O'Neill, former CEO of Golden State Vintners. Jeff came from a business background but is also a third generation member of a California winemaking family with roots dating back to 1934.
They own vineyards all over the state, wine processing and bottling services, and are recognized as the preferred outsourcing partner for many of the world's leading beverage alcohol companies and brand owners. Today, O'Neill Vintners has grown to become one of the top 20 largest wineries in the US.
Root Cause comes from certified California sustainable vineyards. In other words, everything that is used here is recycled into something else, leaving a very small carbon footprint. O'Neill also practices very close to total organic farming. That may be the reason why their wines are so clean and flavorful.
Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most versatile grapes in the world. It can adapt to many different climates and soils. Yet, the imprint of those factors leave their mark in the wine. In this case, grapes from slightly warmer climates were used and grown in looser soils. As a result, the flavors are riper and more obvious.
Our selection is completely devoid of some of the vegetative flavors that can be present in Sauvignon Blanc. Instead, we get rich, sweet/tart peach and nectarine balanced with citrus, which is perfect with chicken Cordon Bleu or our brown butter trout recipe.
