Yali is a nature reserve and wetlands roughly 120 miles east of Santiago, the capital of Chile. It was christened a reserve in 1996, and the winery came into being a short time afterward.Because of its exalted position as a reserve, it must pay very close attention to the environment. As a result, Yali is a completely sustainable winery, with practically no carbon footprint and a certified organic vineyard.

The winemaker is Sergio Hormazabal, a Chilean native who studied and obtained his degrees in oenology in France but returned home to run the winery in 2009. He went on to become president of the Chilean Winemakers Association, an honor he cherishes as much as his heralded wines.

Chile's Central Valley is so perfect for growing grapes that it's almost considered magical. Most of the vineyards are over 3,000 feet above sea level. There is almost no rain, but ample water from the runoff of the Andes Mountains, and the sunshine is bright and cool. The high elevation also deters pests, making Yali's organic commitment easier to accomplish.

The result is a cleanliness about the wines that is quite striking. The purity of flavors is the result of Yali's farming techniques and location. Our selection is startlingly bright with enticing aromas of lychee, pear and white peach. The finish offers a hint of grapefruit and a touch of quince.
