Twenty years ago, we could have never offered a wine like this at this price even at the prices then. There was also a thought afoot that, although completely baseless, a winery the size of Bronco could never make a wine this good. As with all myths, these to have to be dismissed as well.

First of all, there is now ten times more Pinot Noir planted in California than there was 20 years ago. Even a sexy business like wine can't elude the laws of supply and demand. Back then a finicky grape like Pinot Noir had its way with vineyardists and winemakers, as it presented obstacles at every step in the grape growing and winemaking process. However, the last 20 years might as well be considered a century when it comes to wine. It's due mainly to companies like Bronco whose resources dwarf most of the wineries in California. Also, they have learned to tame the beast called Pinot Noir and turn it into the wine that everyone loves, yet at a price that destroys the competition.

Bronco has also been at the forefront of dealing with this grape when it comes to growing in areas that were considered unsuitable-areas that cost one-tenth the price of vineyards in Sonoma. That impacted the price, but not the quality produced. Here is an amazing selection loaded with redolent floral, spice, cherry and vanilla, to carry the mantle across anything from a classic cassoulet to chicken with 40 cloves (only 40?) of garlic.
