Our selection is crafted by Bronco Wine Company, one of the largest wineries in California. The company was founded by Theresa Franzia in 1906 when she planted grapes along the side of a road that led to Yosemite Valley. Theresa and her family were one of the first to sell and ship the grapes back to Italian home winemakers on the East Coast during Prohibition. When Prohibition was rescinded, her seven children built and operated the California Winery, which is the impetus for the name of our selection. It continues today under her descendants.
Among their many accomplishments, the Franzia's were the first to sell wine in a box in the 1970s. They continue today to be the largest producer of that segment. When organic farming began to make headlines, the Franzia's began the arduous task of converting 5,000 acres in Madera to organics. Later, they added another 5,700 acres becoming the largest organic vineyard in the world. They were one of the first wineries to institute water conservation and sustainability measures in their wineries and continue to be a leader in both fields. Today, Bronco is the seventh largest winery in California producing 10 million cases annually and owns 60 different brands.
Our selection is classic Bronco. It blends diverse grapes harmoniously to produce a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. Consisting of mostly Syrah and Petite Sirah, the wine exhibits a luscious ripe cherry and blueberry flavor and a clean, invigorating finish to match a leg of lamb with garlic and rosemary.
