Our selection is produced by the Danubiana Winery located in Hungary. The winery was founded by a German company and eventually sold to Alsace investors. Under their guidance, it has become one of the largest and most respected wineries in the nation.

The name of this wine refers to a species of cricket that likes to eat the tendrils of grape vines, thus robbing them of nutrients necessary to produce sound grapes. The crickets however do not like the tendrils of the Gruner Veltliner vines, which is good news to the producers, so they named the wine after it. I'm thinking that would be a first!

Hungary was a major player in the wine world until the Soviet Union took over. The shadow cast over them kept their wines from reaching the rest of the world, so they have been catching up ever since. This is unfortunate because, as you will taste, the wines from here are extraordinary. As if we don't have enough foreign play with this German founded company now owned by the French, the grape is originally from Austria. Gruner is nothing short of a spectacular grape that seems to grow well in other places besides Austria, like the Pannonia region of Hungary. It produces a unique grape that is unlike any other.

You are immediately struck by the greenish tinge at the edges. The aromas of kiwi and quince are as welcome as they are surprising. But the unmistakable flavors peach and guava fill the palate and finish with a squeeze of lime.
