Our selection comes from the powerhouse Spanish producer, Manzanos Wines, founded by the family in Navarra in 1890. They have since acquired vineyards in several other notable appellations including Rioja where they are one of the largest vineyard owners with 600 acres of their own vineyards and control over another 1,600 acres. Their total vineyard holdings come to 4,000 acres.

What is interesting to note is that they were grape growers for over 100 years before establishing their winery in 1996. From there, things took off as they established 10 wineries across the depth and breadth of Spain where today they produce almost one million cases of wine. The company is managed by the 5th generation of the Manzanos family with the same commitment to quality as their ancestors had when they planted their first grapes. This dedication is evident in every wine they make.

Our selection is crafted in Northern Spain very close to Rioja. But because it is not within the boundaries, it can't be called Rioja, though you couldn't tell that from the taste. It sports Rioja's two main grapes, Tempranillo and Grenache and is aged in American oak barrels as is almost every wine made in Rioja.

The classic spice and earth tones of Tempranillo are immediately evident in the nose and take center stage on the palate. The lively fruit of Grenache softens the edges and begs for a grilled feast of lamb and beef preceded by the famous salami and cheeses Spain has to offer.
