Root Cause comes to us from O'Neill Vintners, one of our favorite suppliers as they seem to always have the best wines at the best prices. That seems to be the only two factors that are important, but that fact also seems to elude many suppliers.

It certainly doesn't elude Jeff O'Neill who founded O'Neill Vintners in 2004. He is the former CEO of Golden State Vintners. Coming from a business background, he is also a third-generation member of a California winemaking family with roots dating back to 1934. The fact that O'Neill has become one of the largest wineries in California in less than 20 years is a testament to Jeff's understanding of the quality and price factors. The grapes are grown on certified sustainable vineyards. In other words, everything that is used here is recycled into something else, leaving a very small carbon footprint. O'Neill also practices very close to total organic farming. That may be the reason why Root Cause wines are so clean and flavorful.

Sauvignon Blanc is one of our favorite grapes. It seems to do well no matter where it is grown. We tend to be particularly fond of those from California's warmer climates because the grapes fresh fruit and higher acids naturally shine through better than most any other grape. In our selection we get rich, sweet, tart peach and nectarine balanced with a citrus and lime finish. It is that classic acid component that leaves the palate cleansed, a perfect foil for chicken Cordon Bleu or our roast cod recipe.
