First, we couldn't believe our eyes. Then we couldn't believe our palates. A Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon in the Classic Series? Impossible! But, thanks to a soft market, once again we are the beneficiaries, as are our members.
Originally, this wine was crafted for a high-end restaurant chain which was paying twice as much as our Classic price. And, that was wholesale! But with all the restaurant restrictions, the deal didn't materialize-good for us. Our long association with Art+Farm, the producers, is what brought this wine to us in the first place. That's the advantage of being the oldest wine club in America.
It's not just Cabernet Sauvignon, its Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Napa's reputation for this grape is global. Napa Valley has been heralded as a fine wine area for almost 200 years. Settlers from France and Italy recognized the climate and soil as similar to where their great wines came from. Even wine lovers in France salute Napa Cabernet Sauvignon-after all, it did best their Bordeaux in the 1976 Paris tasting.
Everything you would expect is here and more. The rare, fresh earth along with the tart cherry, licorice and leather hints speak to the ground in which the grapes were born. Finally, the silky tannins don't just say Napa, they scream it. This wine is ready to grace a perfectly cooked, aged New York steak simmered in brown butter and topped with a touch of tarragon and garlic.
