Our selection comes to us from one of our most consistent suppliers, Bronco Wine Company, owned by the Franzia Family. Franzia is one of the oldest continuously producing wine companies in California. They predate Gallo, which is the largest. The Franzias produced wine under their own label until they sold it to Coca Cola in 1973 and founded Bronco. They were the first to introduce the bag in the box wine, which although first created in Australia, had yet to make an appearance here.
Bronco has several wine facilities in California including Napa, which is one of the largest in the county. As big as they are, they still put out amazing quality wines at amazing prices and we have never tasted a wine we didn't like. Sure, we like some better than others, but their consistently excellent wines are unmatched. The Franzias are the single largest vineyard owner in California at 10,000 acres. What is most impressive here is that half of their vineyard is now certified organic, making it one of the largest, if not the largest, organic vineyard in the world.
Riesling is one of our favorite grapes. We like it grown almost anywhere, but are partial to Germany. Franzia tries to emulate German Riesling and does a fabulous job. The low alcohol and lightness of this majestic grape rises to its pinnacle here. From the touches of apricot, swashes of green apple, Asian pear and an undertone of citrus, it shines at every turn. Matching with a red bell pepper hummus or shrimp cocktail would be sublime.
