Serbal wines are produced at the Atamisque Winery in Mendoza, Argentina. John Du Monceau fell in love with the long-established winery and decided to settle there, from his home in France, with his wife Chantal. Now John owns the winery and Chantal designs Atamisque's distinctive labels.

John hired winemaker Philippe Caraguel, who had a background in enology in Argentina, as well as in Montpellier, France. He is one of only three winemakers in Argentina to have studied in Montpellier, France's premiere school for enology.

The 160-acre winery is located in Tupungato, one of the finest grape-growing regions in Mendoza. The vineyards are 50 years old and sit at an altitude of 4,000 feet above sea level. The history of wine in this area goes back to the 1600s, when Jesuit missionaries from Europe brought grapes and wine culture to the area. Their legacy has obviously flourished.

And no grape has flourished here like Malbec. It is no less than a revelation. It's easy to understand when you taste it. Argentinian Malbecs are nothing short of spectacular, and this beauty is no exception.

The intense blackberry and sweet/tart cherry comes at you from all directions. First, the unforgettable nose, followed by the uncompromising palate, and finally the spectacular finish. The tannins stop just short of the pain threshold, but there's enough there to know you have just consumed something very special.
