At the tender age of 14, Paul Manuel started working for the family construction company. He stayed with it for 30 years, working his way from laborer, to project foreman, to controller where he managed over $98 million in total sales.

He liked to say that construction was in his blood, drawing from his ancestors working as rock farmers in Chacewater, England. So, in 1988 when he and his wife, Kellye, began designing and building a vineyard on their property, finding a name was easy. At first, they sold all their grapes to Fetzer in Mendocino. So, if you spot an older Fetzer with the appellation of Lake County, it probably came from Chacewater.

Ready to try his hand at running a different sort of business, one more rooted in the land, Paul acquired a 10-acre Olive Mill property in Lake County in 2008 and built a 10,000 square foot winery adjacent to the Olive Mill. In 2011, they released their first professionally made wines.

Lake County rests between Napa and Mendocino. Many wineries in both counties get their grapes from there, as it is probably one of the best little-known grape growing regions in California. Our selection has won a double gold and several gold medals at California competitions. For good reason.

It begins with a complex nose of green apple and vanilla with hints of spice and minerals. They continue in the mouth releasing a creamy edge as well and finish with abundancy.
