Our white selection also comes from the Rauzan co-op. Of its 8,200 acres of grapes, only 1,300 produce white wines. However, this is still slightly more than the planting mix of whites versus reds in Bordeaux as a whole. That's because this area, Entre-Deux-Mers, produces most of the white wines that come from Bordeaux.

The main grapes on the estate are Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Sauvignon Gris (a family member of Sauvignon Blanc), Muscadelle and Colombard. They produce several quality levels of whites, but at the top of the heap is our Font Maine which boasts 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon.

It is very interesting to note that although the disparity in plantings is very large between red and white grapes, it seems that the people of Bordeaux like to talk more about their white wines than red. There's a reason for that. Even though Sauvignon Blanc is grown all over the world and does wonderfully well almost anywhere, its expression in Bordeaux is untouchable. Even taking into consideration great areas like Sancerre and Pouilly Fume, white Bordeaux is a pure treasure.

All the grapes come from one parcel on the estate, Font Maine, as it is deemed to be the best of the property. One taste will tell you they know what they're doing. From beginning to end, this is one selection lavished with white flowers, white peach, and citrus notes. It begs for shrimp in a mustard and tarragon sauce or baked brie with roasted garlic on sourdough.
