Quite honestly, we're pretty tired of fanciful names and words to get the attention of the shopper. We feel winemakers should put their efforts in the bottle, not on the label. So naturally, we approached In Vino Erotico hoping to not like it.
We were sorely disappointed. We loved it. After all, when they start the description with "Vino Erotico is an emotional wine." you can literally count the rolling eyes in the room. We lost count.
In spite of their emotion, we were quite taken. It comes from the Languedoc area of Provence, in a section called B?ziers. It is one of the most beautiful places on earth and a destination point for sightseers and vacationers. It's only recently that Beziers wine has started to draw attention.
Our selection is a blend of 50% Syrah with equal doses of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The grapes are fermented at very cold temperatures to extract color and flavor. The finished wine is aged in oak barrels to contribute flesh and fire, as well as to blend all the essences into one harmonious whole.
The result is staggering. The color is very dark and dense. The nose is an amalgam of cherry, earth and chocolate. On the palate, it is wallop of flavors that just keep coming.
At first gulp, you may think this may be too much to swallow. But then the soft tannins kick in and you are left with a mouthful of deliciousness. Erotic? No. Delectable? Absolutely!
