This is the perfect example of the old adage, putting the cart before the horse. Acinum is owned by Vias Imports, probably the most respected Italian wine importer there is.
In the "old" days, importers would go to other countries looking for gems to bring back to the U.S. Vias wasn't satisfied with that. Instead, they found the best winemakers they could, and then had them make the wine for them.
This is what Fabrizio Pedrolli had in mind when he founded Vias in 1983, but he didn't have a winemaker. When he met Enrico Paternoster, after tasting his incredible wines, the marriage was made. Enrico had the experience and accolades to assure success, and their partnership worked.
Soave is probably the most misunderstood white wine of Italy. Back in the day, Soaves were known as pleasant, inoffensive and cheap. Then the guys with the best vineyards in Soave got together and petitioned the government to allow for a Soave Classico appellation, which translates to the center of the area and almost always is the best.
The classic grape of the area is Garganega. It is often blended with cheaper grapes like Trebbiano, to keep the costs down. Acinum will do no such thing. This is a rarity in that the blend is 100% Garganega and proud of it.
Our Soave is rich and flavorful beyond compare. Passion fruit and lemon drops abound, along with a tantalizing finish.
