Mining the areas of France for wine treasures can be a lot of fun and very enlightening. The area of Bergerac is one of those areas. It boasts microclimates similar to Bordeaux, grows the same grapes and makes some wines of equal quality. They're just not called Bordeaux, but who would notice?

Eyssards was founded just 30 years ago by Pascal Cuisset, whose family have grown grapes here for generations. Pascal needed to make a statement about his 100-acre vineyard. His statement was that his grapes are as good as those grown on the hallowed ground of Bordeaux, literally next door. And he set out to prove it.

Bergerac was given A.O.C. status in 1936, and then broken down further into villages in 1993. The hills of Saussignac were one of those villages, where the Chateau des Eyssards vineyards reside.

Eyssards is completely organic, sustainable and biodynamic. They pay attention to every piece of the ecosystem of the vineyard, from the tiniest nematode to the largest deer, and only use natural products and processes to make sure no harm is done to their grapes.

The result is dramatic. The flavors in their wines have length and balance seldom tasted anywhere, even Bordeaux. Our selection is made almost completely of Sauvignon Blanc and exhibits all the nuance that grape can deliver, from the fresh apple, wild peach and lime, to the pristine soil from which it was born.
