Outlot is crafted by Geyser Peak Winery, founded in 1880 as California's 29th bonded winery. Though the winery has gone through a series of owners and winemakers since then, the wines have always been top drawer. Geyser Peak is located in Sonoma's Geyserville appellation, and sources grapes from their own estate vineyards as well as those from Alexander Valley, the Russian River and Dry Creek. This allows them to pick and choose from the best grapes available. Whether that is from their own vineyards or other grape growers.
The Outlet wines come from grapes exclusively grown in the Magnolia Peninsula, famous for its grand ranches, exclusive resorts, nurseries and more recently, wine. Most areas known for growing plants and flowers are not suitable for grapes because the soil is too fertile except for the hillsides. Of course, that's where the Outlot wines come from. The higher elevation accounts for the moderate temperature here as well as a brighter sun. This combination is perfect for growing grapes as the cooler temperature keeps the grapes on the vine longer while the sunlight matures them slowly retaining acids and intensity of flavors.
The result is an astonishing selection offering all the complexity we look for in a great Sauvignon Blanc. The slightly herbaceous aroma leads into aromas of passionfruit and lemongrass which continue on to the palate. Flecks of gooseberry and white peach show themselves leading to a grand and glorious finish. Matching with a bean medley or a seafood gumbo would delight all who experience it.
