The Rochebin estate is located in the heart of Southern Burgundy. Most of this Domaine's vineyards were originally cultivated by monks at the Medieval Christian Abbey in Cluny. The Rochebin estate was founded in 1921 and has been dedicated solely to winemaking since 1972. Mickael Marillier, alongside his father Jean-Pierre and Laurent Chardigny, jointly manage the property which has over 50 hectares of vines. The region is packed with historical interest. The award-winning estate crowns the hilltops overlooking the Saone Plain in Macon and nearby is the Paleolithic archaeological site of Pech de l'Aze, where it was discovered that agricultural activity in this region dates back to the Iron Age.

The vineyard follows sustainable practices in all things, from the grass in all the plots to pest management. This region is renowned for producing elegant and mature chardonnay. The grapes are harvested at peak maturity, with special tractors that are able to pass through the rows of vines to gather the grapes. The juice is then matured for 12 months in oak barrels.

The result is a wine that has a beautiful golden straw color, and a nose that is quintessentially Chardonnay, with buttered aromas, toasted bread, and almonds. Flavors that unfold include white flowers, dried fruit, herbs, and honey (especially after two or three years in the bottle). On the palate it is aromatic with a long and rich finish. This wine will pair well with hor d'oeuvres such as pate or chicken liver mousse and mild cheese. It is also excellent with dishes that feature cream, think pasta alfredo, a pizza bianca, or milk braised pork. Or go the opposite route and pair this with spicier dishes, such as a chicken or vegetable curry.
