Nothing like using a little deity reference to get people to take notice. In this case, Ogier chose an area in the Cotes du Rhone called Plan de Dieu. It means God's plain and refers to a part of the region in the Middle Ages that was so bandit infested that all you could do is commit your soul to God.

If the quality that comes off this plain is all that is needed to qualify for its moniker, then it certainly has earned it. Although it is labeled Cotes du Rh?ne, it would fool almost any experienced taster into thinking it comes from the finest appellation in the land, Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It is literally the densest, richest, and most astounding Cotes du Rhone we've ever tasted. Part of that is the 2017 vintage which is being hailed as one of the greatest in history. We're very skeptical about those statements because we've heard them so many times before. But, in this case it's really hard to argue. It's that good.

The winery was founded by Etienne Ogier in 1859. He later expanded to Chateauneuf-du-Pape and became one of the Rh?ne's largest wineries. Our selection is largely Grenache with splashes of Syrah and Mourvedre. It is packed with dense cassis and cranberry, a full spice cabinet and structure to power through grilled lamb loin with mint pesto or venison with dried cherries.
