Hossein Namdar and Robert Goyette have been friends and partners for decades. It is that relationship that guides the two of them into crafting wines that turn the heads of aficionados. As a team they also were tapped by wineries like Benziger to help craft their high end Imagery Series. Their resume reads like one hit after another.
Namdar graduated from UC Davis in 1986 and went to work at Domaine Chandon. He partnered with Chandon's CEO, John Wright, and purchased a 214-acre vineyard on Lakeville Highway in an area now known as Petaluma Gap. Goyette was one of the founders of La Crema, still one of the top selling wines in the U.S. He also consulted for superstar wineries like Ridge, Calera and Kistler. All are top drawer producers. Today they share winemaking duties as well as canvasing vineyards looking for prizes that have yet to be discovered. One of those discoveries was our selection; a California blockbuster featuring Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Malbec. The wine is aged in French and American oak barrels to fine tune the exotic black fruit that pervades the palate.
Cabernet and Merlot are staples in California. But, it's the Syrah that pulls it all together by taking the earth and berry tones of both and adding its own blueberry and spice components for increased complexity. The result is a luscious fruit bomb with ample tannins for a finish that explodes in the mouth. Pairing with a spicy chili or lamb stew would be an ample accompaniment.
