The story of Conjecture is no conjecture. It is the story of Art Farm winery's dizzying history from Australia to California to New Zealand and back again. Kat and Rob McDonald founded Old Bridge Cellars over 25 years ago in Southern Australia. A chance opportunity allowed them to purchase a prized vineyard in Napa Valley, so off they went. But, not entirely.
They had formed such wonderful recognition and alliances in Australia and New Zealand they decided they couldn't give them up. So, they became one of the few globetrotting and hemisphere crossing winemakers in the world.
Those alliances allowed them to import the finest wines from Australia, which had never been in the states before, and not surprisingly had a tremendous acceptance. It's tiring just to think about making wine on two continents and two islands and importing wine from one to the other. But, there's more.
There's the heritage chicken ranch, bees and a tomato farm. Together they are advocates for dry farming & its' benefits. Fortunately, this power couple with two daughters and a dog have the energy to pull it off. Some of us barely have the energy to write about it.
Our selection is one of their great wines. Kat and Rob create masterfully blended, exquisite renditions of what Napa is all about. The dense cherry and earth-driven flavors morph into flecks of clove and cinnamon and finish with poise, purpose and perfection.
