Synthesis comes to us from the Martin Ray winery located in Santa Rosa. The place of the winery is secondary to the place the grapes came from. In this case, most people agree that Napa Valley is about as good as it gets for Cabernet Sauvignon from California.

Martin Ray was one of the greatest pioneers in California wine history. He founded the Almaden winery in 1936, the same year legendary winemaker, Andre Tchelistcheff, made the first BV Private Reserve.

Ray sold the winery in 1943 and founded his namesake winery in Santa Cruz. He was the first winery in Santa Cruz. He left us in 1976, but his name continues.

A chance finding in 1992 of 1500 cases of his wine was discovered in a warehouse in San Jose by the founder of Blackstone Winery. It was more than 25 years old, yet still in amazing condition. Martin Ray was reborn.

The parent company has holdings in many of the prime grape-growing areas in California including several in Sonoma and Santa Cruz. Fresno State grad, Lindsey Haughton was hired as an enologist in 2013 and literally climbed up the ranks to winemaker in 2016.

Lindsey brings a certain subtlety to this Cabernet to compliment the bold brashness of Napa fruit. Large plum and cherry flavors are gently brought to the palate in a continuous wave that leave a long and lasting impression.
