Provenance is one of the few wineries that was actually founded by a giant corporation. Usually, they just wait until a winery becomes successful and then buy them. Diageo is one of the largest liquor companies in the world. They control brands like Smirnoff, Johnny Walker and Guinness.

Deciding to get into the wine business for companies like Diageo is a big undertaking. They have a history to protect along with a reputation. So, when they decided to build a winery from the ground up, it had to be special.

In 1999, Provenance was that winery. They couldn't be just anywhere in Napa. It had to be Rutherford, the cradle of the Valley. They couldn't just hire any winemaker. It had to be David Galzignato who had worked in Bordeaux for no less than Chateau Mouton Rothschild.

At first, they produced just Cabernet and Merlot from their vineyards as well as some of the most noted vineyards in Napa. But a few years ago, they decided to try Chardonnay, and it couldn't be just any Chardonnay. It had to come from Carneros, the Chardonnay capital of Napa.

Fortunately, we were one of the first to get it. This selection is no less than what we expected from what is now considered Napa royalty. The flavor profiles are other-worldly. From peach nectar to Asian pear and Braeburn apple, the wine literally floats through your palate applying a different sensation at every pour. No lobster thermidor should be eaten without it.
