Washington Street is the work of the Spanos-Berberian Winery co-owned by the families. The Berberians were wine and spirits wholesalers for 55 years and founders of the Bank of Agriculture and Commerce in 1965 in Stockton, California. The Spanos family are real estate developers known for their philanthropy in fostering education, health and youth initiatives. They are also the owners of the Los Angeles Chargers football team.

The winery, which also houses the Bell winery, is located at 6200 Washington Street in Yountville, which is, of course the reason for the name. It is the first street to be named in Yountville since the town was formed in 1867 and is considered an historical landmark. Winemaker, John Hazak, graduated UC Davis and immediately was offered a job in Burgundy. How could he say no? He returned the US in 2005 and worked for several prominent wineries including Provenance and BV before joining Bell in 2020. Founder and winemaker, Anthony Bell, was retiring and could find no better replacement than Hazak. Our selection is a classic example of Bell's vision. He specialized in small lot, single clone wines if impeccable nature which highlighted the uniqueness of each selection. Washington Street is no exception.

This classic Bordeaux-like selection is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The aromas of cassis and wild blackberries suggest Pauillac as does the ripe cherry and dark chocolate. Pairing with pork roast lathered in rosemary and garlic or a prime skirt steak would be as ideal as it gets.
