Once again, we feature a wine from the Kuleto Estate, one of the most iconic and distinctive properties in the Napa Valley. The estate was founded in 1986 by restaurateur Pat Kuleto, on 760 acres in eastern Napa. He planted 82 acres of grapes, mostly the Bordeaux varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.
Our blend is primarily Merlot and Malbec with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon playing minor roles. This is a combination you would encounter on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, where Merlot dominates.
The property is at a higher elevation than most of Napa, thus the temperature is cooler and the sun brighter. This combination accounts for a longer growing season, which allows the vines to pull more nutrients out of the soil and produce more flavorful wine.
And flavor is what this wine is all about. Great wines exhibit their greatness from the moment you pour them into your glass. This one is no exception.
The dense, opaque color signals the magnificent elixir to come. The nose is closed but begins to open up with 20 to 30 minutes of air, so don't be in a hurry.
The first sip takes your breath away. The flavors seem immense at first, but then lovingly dance on the palate with grace and elegance. The total impact of the wine lasts for minutes, not seconds. The finish is gloriously long and generous.
