Steve Reynolds didn't grow up in the wine business. He learned about great wine at an early age from his father - and it stuck - but Steve chose a more secure profession. He got his dentistry degree at the University of the Pacific and opened his own practice in the Central Valley of California.
When his best friend introduced him to a friend from Napa, they started visiting the wineries and the countryside. From there, it was just a matter of time before the calling was too loud to ignore.
So, Steve sold his practice and, with his wife Suzi, bought a chicken ranch in Napa in 1995, and Reynolds Family Winery was born. The winery is literally a family affair, with his son Cameron and daughters Rebecca and Sarah all pitching in to make it work.
Steve had no formal training in wine making, other than taking a few courses at UC Davis. He learned by doing. And he's done quite well!
Our selection was made from grapes grown in the Los Carneros district of Napa. Reynolds has a long-term contract with the vineyard to assure quality and consistency from vintage to vintage.
The balance on this Chardonnay is amazing. Half the wine was barrel fermented to add complexity, but not so much that it's overpowering. The finish is nothing less than superb!
