The Lapis Luna portfolio of wines has offered outstanding wines produced with grapes sourced from the best growers in Lodi, the North Coast, and Napa Valley since 1999. Recently, general manager, Evan Nelson, along with his brother and business partner, Andrew, have continued to develop these important relationships with growers and have produced this excellent California Cabernet.
The distinctive labels on Lapis Luna wines bring to life 400-year-old copperplate engravings to depict the relationship between the earth (stone) and the moon (luna). These labels also tell a story of individuals striving to connect with nature, just as farmers and vintners do when they create wines that can be shared and enjoyed. The grapes come from the northern and southern extremes of the Napa Valley. The Cabernet grapes were grown in the warm deep valley soil of Calistoga, and the Merlot grapes, with smaller berries, were grown in the cool climate and shallow sandy soil of Carneros.
This is a medium-bodied wine with bold fruit flavors and smooth, structured tannins. It has aromas of cassis berries, plum, blueberry, vanilla, oak, and chocolate. It is a fruit-forward wine with lush flavors, a nice balance, and a long, silky finish. Pair this wine with braised short ribs or grilled lamb with rosemary and thyme. This wine will pair nicely with fatty cheeses and sheep's or cow's milk. For vegetarian fare, go with heartier grilled or roasted veggies, such as eggplant and mushrooms, or pair with stewed lentils. To satisfy that sweet tooth, pair with high-quality medjool dates (you can also stuff them with blue cheese for an added punch).
