In 1948, Mario Trinchero, an immigrant from Italy, left New York City for California's Napa Valley and purchased an abandoned Prohibition-era winery in St. Helena. By the 1970s, the Trinchero family began receiving acclaim and accolades from critics, sommeliers, and consumers alike. Today, Mario's sons, Bob and Roger Trinchero, continue the family's legacy with the help of Bob Torkelson.
In 1980, the Trinchero family purchased Mary's Vineyard, named for Mario's wife. This sustainably-farmed estate vineyard sits on 34 acres in the Calistoga AVA and has balanced vines, moderately fertile soils, and excellent sun exposure-ideal conditions to grow Sauvignon Blanc with a vibrant character. Part of the grape blend is pulled from the newer planting of Musque Clone, adding complexity to the final blend. Grapes were immediately pressed after harvest and the juice underwent a cold fermentation.
This Sauvignon Blanc has brilliant clarity, a beautiful yellow-green color, with aromas of grapefruit, figs, apricot, and candied lemon. The wine is all Sauvignon Blanc with medium body, crisp acidity and a nice, balanced finished. Pair this Sauvignon Blanc with roast chicken or grilled pork chop with fennel and coriander. This wine will also pair nicely with sea bass, crab, clams, and mussels. You can't go wrong pairing this with a soft goat's cheese, or a refreshing cucumber and dill salad. This is the perfect wine for your warm-weather meals.
