We literally couldn't wait to get our hands on this wine, let alone our palates, when we heard it was crafted by Neil Koch of Canepa Cellars. He also makes one of the most successful Wine of the Month Club selections ever, The Dude, which sells out almost immediately.
Neil has been wowing wine lovers for over 15 years with showstoppers like Seavey, Bryant Family, and Vineyard 29. All are top drawer Napa Valley wineries along with Lewis Cellars where he was assistant winemaker. There are a few winemakers we know who just have the magic touch and Neil is one of them.
The beauty about his operation is that he doesn't own a big winery with a tasting room staff, underground caves, and a lot of expensive equipment. He rents them, which keeps costs down so he can put out a wine that is literally half the price of comparable wines. How could you not love that?
Thread Feathers is nothing less than another masterpiece. All 100% of the grapes came from Mount Veeder, one of the most revered appellations in Napa. Neil blends in 9% Merlot and then ages the wine in exclusively French oak, 30% of which is new. The oak adds complexity but doesn't overtake the wine.
The result is a harmony of complex flavors including black plum and cranberry mixed with tobacco and earth tones. It would pair well with a steak Diane or a tenderloin with wild mushrooms.
