On a lovely spring day back in the mid 1970s, Dr. Al Steen, a good customer of Paul Sr., walked into the Palos Verdes Wine and Spirits Shop and announced he had purchased property and was building a winery in Napa. It was like a bottle had just dropped on the floor. Al was a highly respected surgeon, but what did he know about wine other than enjoying it?
As it turned out, Al had other qualities in business that even in the crazy and competitive wine arena, he did extremely well. That winery was Whitehall Lane and for the nearly 20 years that he owned it, the wines enjoyed critical acclaim and enormous popularity. He then purchased Merlot grapes from a vineyard named Morisoli and proudly named it on his label. The wines made from there put Morisoli on the wine map and was the main reason why Tom Leonardini purchased it when Al decided it was time to retire.
Tom was a wine lover and successful businessman in San Francisco, so when he learned that one of his favorite wineries was for sale he couldn't resist. Under his stewardship, the reach of the wines has extended and the quality is still at the high level it has always been.
Our selection is a perfect example. From the candied black cherry and pomegranate in the nose to the full cocoa and vanilla cream on the palate it thrills at every turn and would turn a slow roasted pork loin into a feast.
