The Codorniu Family founded Artesa in 1991 to bring their 500-year heritage of winemaking to the Napa Valley. They created the oldest winery in Spain, which is also one of the oldest in the world.

In Spain, they are amongst the best producers of Cava, the Spanish version of Champagne. Codorn?u Family's winery was founded in 1551, before the invention of sparkling wine. They were producing still wines until 1872, when Cava became popular, and the Codorn?u name along with it. They process the wines using the Champagne method, meaning that they create the bubbles in the bottle, a more expensive procedure than making them in tanks and bottling wine that is already sparkling. Spain is the largest producer of bottled fermented sparkling wine on earth.

Codorn?u Napa changed its name in 1997 to Artesa, which means "handcrafted" in Catalan. It fits, as their wines are beautifully crafted, nothing short of works of art with a little science thrown in.

They picked the cool Carneros district of Napa to plant their vineyards, which now amount to 150 acres of fine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

This bottle of Artesa Chardonnay from 2015 is nothing less than perfection in winemaking. There is the clean, luscious Chardonnay fruit sporting green apple, kiwi and guava, expanded upon with a light oak treatment to add spice and complexity. The result is an amalgam of brilliance, with fruit and spice notes balanced with honeysuckle and a tight, yet generous, finish. Now, you can own a bottle of Artesa Chardonnay, 2015 through the Wine of the Month Club!
