Station 26 comes to us from Ian McCaffrey, founder of California Icons in 2020. He wanted to pay tribute to what he calls iconic locations in California. It is named after a restaurant that is now sadly closed, but its memory lives on. Ian graduated with a winemaking degree from UC Davis in 2016 and obviously hit the ground running as he worked at some of the most famous wineries in California including Mondavi, Phelps and Martini.

The grapes for this beauty were sourced from the Buena Vista winery near the town of Sonoma. It was established in 1857 by Augustine Haraszthy, who is credited with the birth of premium grape growing in the state. The governor of California financed an excursion to Europe where Haraszthy was to gather grape cuttings as far and wide as he could. Upon his return there were legions of eager farmers ready to buy and plant the grapes which would become the cornerstone of California's wine industry. Buena Vista is considered the oldest premium winery in the state.

Our selection is a worthy tribute to the history of this historic site. Yields were kept at a minimum to intensify the fruit and mineral components. The wine was aged for 20 months in French oak barrels to further complex and add several dimensions of flavor. The result is an amazing amalgam of dense black fruits mixed with licorice, dark chocolate and earth. The finish is mesmerizing and invites a rack of lamb with mint pesto or a beef tenderloin to join the party.
