Altamura is one of California's early cult wines. It was founded by Frank and Karen Altamura in 1985 and their reputation has kept glowing and growing ever since. Their first vintage was sourced from a vineyard on the Altamura Ranch that had been established by Karen's family in 1855. Its history was beyond compare and it only grew as the wines became more and more sought after.
Altamura became a legend with their Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese, and they were one of the first wineries to plant this Italian varietal in California. But, what is little known about Altamura is that they also make one of the most priceless Sauvignon Blancs in California. We are continually amazed at the beauty and grace of Sauvignon Blanc from Napa and have tried for years to secure this luscious wine for our members and are thrilled to finally do so.
The conversation always hover around Cabernet, but the Sauvignon Blancs are every bit as inspiring. Our selection was sourced from a four acre 28-year old vineyard which is dry farmed, meaning you get what mother nature gives you, like it or not. The yields are frightfully low, meaning the intensity is insanely high. Barely 1 ? tons come off each acre. Consider the Cabernets come in at four tons to the acre. After aging 18 months in new French oak barrels, the finished wine comes off with fanatical flavors of white peach, apricot and sweet vanilla with touches of citrus and guava. The entire impression is without equal and begs seared salmon with a tomato basil sauce or raw oysters.
