St. Supery Estate Vineyards and Winery is located in the Rutherford growing region of Napa Valley. Today, St. Supery Estate is an iconic Napa Valley institution, but the estate has a history linking this New World winery to the Old. The Skalli family began making wine in French-Algeria in the 1920s. Robert-Elie Skalli selected the finest terrains and planted grape varieties from Southern France like Carignan, Cinsault, and Grenache in his vineyards. With his son, Francis, they produced grapes and vinified full-bodied, generous wines thanks to very low yields. The family has always had a special fondness for wines from the southern Mediterranean and soon started vineyards in Corsica and Languedoc.
In 1982, Robert-Elie Skalli purchased Dollarhide, a 1,500-acre cattle ranch in the northeast mountains of Napa Valley. Dollarhide is home to nearly 500 acres of St. Supery's estate vineyards. Shortly after, the Skalli Family purchased 56 acres in Rutherford, where this Moscato is made. Emma Swain and Michael Scholz have overseen St. Supery since 2009. This has marked substantial investment and enhancement of St. Supery and the wine quality, including sustainable and certified organic practices.
The 2018 growing season for this wine was ideal. The climate enabled the fruit to stay on the vine for the optimal amount of time. Once the desired flavors on the vine were achieved, the grapes were carefully harvested. Then the grapes were pressed to tank and immediately chilled and settled prior to fermentation. All fermentation was completed in stainless steel tanks at cool temperatures to preserve the natural flavors. The final blend was completed with the trademark qualities and intensity of flavor of the variety.
This Moscato is a bright and aromatic wine. It is brilliantly colored in pale yellows with hints of green. The aromas of mandarin and peach blossom are prominent with marmalade and orange zest beneath. The palate is full of fruit flavors, especially peach and nectarine, joined by a citrus undercurrent and an orange peel finish. Pair this aromatic wine with cured meats, a crudites platter, soft cheeses, or your favorite Indian or Thai dishes.
