In ten short years President and CEO of Appellation Ventures, Steve Manley, producers of our Carneros Springs, has built a powerfully impressive fine wine division covering 24 international markets. They specialize in finding hidden gems from top producers who, like so many others, are having difficulty selling all the wine they make. They don't want to lower the price because what would they do the following year?

So, they sell the finished wine to someone like Appellation Ventures and in minutes, a $75.00 wine becomes a $28.00 wine. You may have all sorts of questions regarding this scenario, as we've had in the past, but suffice to say that it is just one of the crazy parts of the wine business that will never change. We love these incongruities because our members are the beneficiaries. Our relationship with companies like Appellation Ventures allows us first access to these gems so that we can pass them on to you. That's our favorite part.

This dense, brooding selection is 82% Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with very small amounts of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petite Verdot, Malbec and Petite Syrah. An addition as little as 5% can make a difference in the final blend and thus is the magic in artful blending. From the very start, it is obvious that this is something special. The opaque color gives way to the black licorice and cassis aromas, which broaden in the mid-palate. Luscious vanilla, earth and dark chocolate take on from there, culminating in a luscious, penetrating finish. Wild boar sausages or a garlic infused lamb leg will do nicely.
