The Dude is yet another wine with a fan-ciful name that we cast a suspicious eye toward. One sip, however, and the words that came out of our mouths were pretty much unprintable. To say this is one of the best wines of its type that we have ever tasted would be putting it mildly. It's that good!
So, we figure whichever "dude" made this has gotta be well-known, right? Well, the dudes involved here are Mark Canepa and Neil Koch - not exactly household names in our households, but their r?-sum?s were staggering. Mark worked for a premiere Napa barrel producer, Seguin Moreau. Neil worked for none less than Seavey Vineyards, Bryant Family, Lewis Cellars and Vineyard 29. They're only four of maybe the top 10 Cabernet producers in the state. And while we've tasted all of those wines, quite frankly, The Dude is not only better, but it's a fraction of the price. Because Mark used to sell the best barrels in the world, he worked with many of the best winemakers in the world. So when it came to making their own wine, they knew whom to call.
Our selection is a blend of 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petite Verdot from un-questionably some of the best vineyards in Napa, Comparable wines have been known to charge the same for a bottle that we're charging for an entire case.
This is Napa at its best. The licorice, leather and clean earth is mixed with cassis, black currant, spice and vanilla to present a party on your palate. Quite honestly, it doesn't get any better.
