Paul Scotto, owner of Limited Lot, is a 5th generation winemaker whose great-great grandfather, Sal Scotto, was making wine in 1883 on an island off the coast of Naples with his son, Dominic. Dominic moved his family to Brooklyn and began making wine in his basement in New York at the turn of the century. He purchased grapes from California and had them shipped by rail to Brooklyn. Paul's grandfather, Anthony, moved the operation to California to be closer to the source and established a winery on the East Bay across from San Francisco in what later would be established as the Livermore Valley.
Assisted by his wife, Natalie, Paul sources exceptional vineyards to partner with and make great wine in limited lots, ergo the name. In this case, they came across a spectacular limited lot Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is so spectacular that they were able to age it for 24 months in French and American Oak barrels. The grapes for this gem came from Eagle Rock Vineyards, located at the Northeast corner of Napa. Here, the rocky soils combine with the warm climate making a dense and imposing wine loaded with structure and flavor. It can only be described as the essence of Napa Valley.
0Even at first glance to the glistening deep magenta color in the glass, you know that this one is special. That first impression is followed by lovely aromas of black cherry, plum and anise. The palate follows through with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla and cassis. Nothing but a prime New York steak grilled to perfection will do.
