Flora Springs was founded by the Komes Family in 1978. This stunning Napa property hit the ground running with their very first vintage in 1982. The original winery was built in 1885 and was one of the first in Napa Valley. It operated quite successfully for more than 20 years until Prohibition forced it out of business, as it did so many other wineries.
As a result, it became one of the many "ghost" wineries offering nothing but a facade and a fading history. The winery was dormant until Louis Martini purchased it in the 1930s after Prohibition ended. He lived there until his passing. Shortly afterward, the Komes Family purchased the property.
All that, of course, has changed today. Flora Springs was one of the first to produce world class Merlot and it became their benchmark. They were also one of the first to produce a Bordeaux blend called Trilogy that rocked the wine world with its subtle nuances similar to the great wines of Bordeaux.
The winery itself is as majestic and engrossing as their wine. It sits atop a hill overlooking the Napa Valley, surrounded by its vineyards, which make a stunning statement about the area. It is one of the most impressive wineries in California. Our selection is a worthy example. This is the large and lovely version of Merlot with ample blackberry and cherry along with dark chocolate and vanilla. Here is bold wine with soft edges and an engaging palate ready for a wild mushroom pasta featuring sliced black truffles.
