Greg Norman is a world famous Australian golfer who also happens to be an incredibly savvy entrepreneur. Many people assume that he prefers Australian wines, but they would be wrong. For him it depends on the situation, menu and mood. He is more of a casual wine drinker, rather than an intense wine connoisseur, and therefore drinks whatever wine he has a desire for at that moment.
Greg also thinks it is important to drink whatever wine you feel like with whatever food is being served. There are so many conflicting 'rules' out there on what wine to drink with what dish that you could make an argument that all of them should be broken. He may choose a Pinot Noir to accompany a juicy steak or a Pinot or a Merlot with chicken. Anything can work as long as you enjoy it.
We like his philosophy almost as much as we love his wines. Greg Norman Estates was founded in 1996 with the mission of bringing world class wines to the world from Australia, New Zealand, and California. He has done an amazing job and the wines prove it.
For our selection, Greg chose grapes from Oakville and Rutherford, two of Napa's finest. How do you treat grapes from such prestigious areas? You age them for 24 months in French oak barrels, 40% of which are new. The result is a mind-altering experience with currants, coffee, and black fruit carrying on for what seems like minutes. A classic prime rib would do nicely.
