Founded in 1998 by Dave and Emily Miner, Miner Family Winery is located in the eastern hills of the Oakville appellation, in the heart of Napa Valley. Their specialty is crafting reserve-style wines by sourcing fruit from exceptional vineyards in Napa and in other prime California wine regions.

The grapes from our selection, for instance, came from the Santa Lucia Highlands in Monterey County. Garys' Vineyard (yes, it's spelled that way!) takes its unusual name from friends and growers Gary Franscioni and Gary Pisoni, who planted the land in 1995. The 50-acre vineyard is nestled among the terraces of the Santa Lucia mountain range, overlooking the Salinas River Valley. The area is known for its cool breezes and morning fog, and it is warmed late into the afternoon by ideal southern exposure. This is world-class Pinot country!

Winemakers Gary Brookman and Stacy Vogel's goal was to make a wine in which the special Santa Lucia Highlands terroir would shine through. And we are richly rewarded by their efforts. Combining old-world winemaking techniques and modern technology, they've hit this one out of the park.

This is an elegant, expressive wine. Glistening light magenta in the glass, you first notice the scent of bright cherry and spices - including anise and clove - while the palate brings more cherry and strawberry along with a hint of oak. The long but dry finish is perfectly balanced and will leave you yearning for your next sip.
