There's something about wine that changes people.usually forever. Without question wine is the most unique beverage on the planet. The reason is simple. It's never the same from one year to the next.

That's what became apparent to California native, Tyler Russell, while stocking shelves at a wine shop in upstate New York, when he was finally old enough to taste them. Every year was different and eventually Tyler's excitement to taste the new vintage and compare it to previous ones was too great to ignore.

That's what literally drove him back to California, where he took jobs with any winery that would hire him. Tyler began learning about the process and finally started crafting his own wine in 2008. The winery then was called Nelle, and specialized in wines blended with Rhone varietals.

Venturing out of the bounds of Paso Robles brought Tyler into the cooler reaches of the Central Coast, where Pinot Noir is the most adored grape. Cordant produces only Pinot Noir from the Central Coast, from both multiple and single vineyards.

The wine in the bottle is as striking as the subdued label that adorns it. Subtlety is the main feature here, with lilting cranberry and pomegranate gently mixing with Bing cherry, swatches of mint and a healthy dose of spice, vanilla and leather. All is held in check by the enveloping finish that says it all.
