Since they launched in 2002, A to Z Wineworks has become one of the top 50 wineries in the U.S., at almost 400,000 cases per year. It didn't hurt that the four principals came from four of the top wineries in Oregon and, four years later, they partnered with San Antonio Spurs coach, Gregg Popovich.
All that firepower is certainly a plus, but it's not a guarantee. In this case, they've more than made good. Few wineries enjoy the accolades and praise that have been heaped on A to Z. They have twice been named one of the top 100 wines of the year, worldwide, and have more "Best of" and "Critics Choice" awards than you can count.
And it all counts for something. In this case, they've earned it. Every wine they make is pretty much at the top of its class. Our selection is no different. This is a wine that was carefully grown and crafted.
Oregon's climate demands that you pay a lot more attention to it than most other places. One must always be on the alert for any disaster or near-disaster circling the vineyards - and be ready with a solution.
A to Z's 2016 season is a perfect example. It started out perfectly, with early flowering on the vines - which usually signals longer hang time for the grapes, and ample sun. Then it got too hot and there was a lot of scampering in the vineyard to shield the grapes from the sun. Then moisture became the problem and had to be dealt with.
All the exigencies were handled and the results are this pure perfection of Pinot Noir with its refreshing, piquant cherry flavor held in a robe of spice and spirit.
