Owner Kent Fortner is one of the most unique winemakers we've ever met. He calls himself a truck driver first and then a winemaker as he drove trucks for years before making wine. Road 31 refers to the road near which his grandfather farmed over 50 years ago in Kansas.

Kent makes one Pinot Noir a year from Napa Valley. That's it. He's been making one a year for almost 20 years. We've been after him to sell us his wine for almost that long, but he was always sold out. For good reason.

His Pinot Noirs have always been outstanding, but he never made enough for the demand. Finally, one of our calls got answered and we're excited to finally bring you a Pinot Noir from Road 31.

Kent usually sources several vineyards in Napa to reach his goal. For our selection, he chose the Stanly Ranch in Carneros and another a few miles away. He ages the wine in French and Hungarian oak to pick up the subtle complexities from each. One third of the barrels were new.

Three different clones were used for this blend. Clonal selection is important in many varietals, but it is most important in Pinot Noir. Each adds its own imprint and personality, making it one of the most complex wines on Earth.

It all works here. From the cherry blossom aromas carried on to the palate and mixed with mint, vanilla and nutmeg this beauty offers a different sensation at every turn, every second, every time.
