Maquis was founded by Jose Mar?a Hurtado Larra?n in 1916 and continues today with the Fourth Generation lead by Ricardo Rivadeneira. Jose survived two world wars and economic strife to preserve his estate, which would become his legacy. Today, it is completely family owned and produces exceptional wines including Cabernet Franc, which recently accorded "The Finest Cabernet Franc in Chile" by The Wine Advocate. The winery is in the Colchagua Valley, a pristine area between two waterways, which have a cooling influence as well as sea matter in the vineyards, providing the finest soil amendment possible.

Rose is a new direction for both Chile and Vina Maquis, but that doesn't mean they're still learning. Our selection is a blend of their internationally revered Cabernet Franc and Malbec, so it is of obvious pedigree. Their methods are quite different than most Rose producers. They use whole cluster fermentation, which means they don't press the grapes with a machine. Instead, they pile the grape clusters into a tank and eventually the weight of the load begins to crush the grapes and begin fermentation very slowly. This is the gentlest and most time consuming method, but the results are spectacular.

Here is an expansive wine with complex flavors seldom experienced in a Rose. Loads of wild strawberry, cranberries, and floral notes fill the glass, nose, and palate with a plethora of pleasure. The sparkling acidity in the finish makes it a natural for eggplant parmigiana, a Caesar salad, or crab cakes with a mint sauce.
