The vineyards of Domaine des Grillemonts have been in the the Chancelle family for five generations and are located in the heart of the Loire. Lydie Chancelle and her husband, Thierry, have run the estate since 2000.She is in charge of the vineyard, caring for the vines and soil, while he works in the cellar managing the vinification process. The domaine is completely sustainable and chemical-free with a serious focus on natural viticultural practices, preservation of the soil, and healthy biodiversity. The grapes are all hand-harvested and bottled early in order to capture their fruit-forward characteristics.

The estate is located in the village of Turquant, in the greater Saumur, where both Lydie's father and grandfather were viticulturists. Within the last decade, the reputation of the wines from Saumur have grown among lovers of Chenin Blanc, leading to the discovery of lesser-known varietals and styles from the region like this stunning rose. One of the unique traits of Saumar is that its soil contains tuffeau, a soft white limestone. Western Saumur marks the beginning of a great seabed of ancient limestones which stretches from Champagne to Burgundy, producing exceptionally bright and fresh wines in contrast to regions with heavier soils.

This rose is 100% Cabernet Franc, which with its characteristic spice and minerality is a favorite amongst winemakers and sommeliers for producing complex and refreshing roses. The nose is full of red fruit like strawberry followed by aromas of rhubarb, melon, and cranberry with hints of wildflowers, hibiscus, and citrus zest there are striking flavors of cherry, pomegranate, cranberry, and mint that rest on a crisp, refreshing palate. It's good chilled and enjoyed as an aperitif with fresh burrata or a soft rind goat cheese. It will also pair well with a crisp salad, Nicoise or Cobb, bitter greens with some fresh fruit, or a grilled shrimp, chicken and some fresh grilled veggies like zucchini or fennel.
