Our selection was first introduced to the world in the 1990's by Maximo Abete. The estate is now run by his daughters, Yoanna and Maria. They fashion several outstanding wines from Navarra, one of the oldest wine regions in Spain. Pilgrims came to the area during the Middle Ages, bringing their wine culture with them and establishing the region. Garnacha is king here. It is uniquely a Spanish grape, though the French have tried to contrive a story making it theirs since it is the principal grape in one of France's greatest wine, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, but the facts are the facts. The grape was first mentioned in 1348 as a cure for ailments like colds and flus. Linguists have suggested that it is a cousin to Vernaccia, the great white of Tuscany, because the spellings of the two grapes at the time were similar. DNA testing set the record straight.

Garnacha is as international a grape as it is Spanish. From France to Italy, Australia to America, it occupies some of the most honored bottles in the world. Its flavors are unmistakable. As a red wine, it shows as much spice and white pepper as it does luscious, mouth-watering fruit. It is the main ingredient in the famous Rose from the south of France.

When properly made, it has no equals. Our selection is a wonderment of class and style. The rose scented aromas touched by swashes of cranberry and spice are nothing but pure delight and pleasant with chicken fricassee or grilled salmon.
