Rascal comes to us from The Great Oregon Wine Company, founded by a who's who of wine industry professionals who subscribe to the same ideals with regard to sustainability and organic farming. We found their backgrounds impressive, but in the final analysis, it's all about the wine.
Ari Walker, Allen Dodge, and Andrew Smith have a combined experience in the wine industry exceeding 100 years. Walker ran wholesale businesses in Colorado. Dodge has worked with big eight accounting firms like Coopers and Lybrand and Smith was a sales firebrand in both the domestic and import wine trade.
While all these accomplishments are impressive, it's when they told us they also own Duck Pond that we took notice. We've featured their wines many times and consider Duck Pond to be one of the best wineries in Oregon.
Rascal refers to the name of the winery mascot, their golden retriever, but may have a bit to do with the owners themselves. They think outside the box, so much so that they were one of the first Oregon wineries to begin becoming completely organic and totally sustainable.
Rascal is crafted from Oregon's most prized grape as well as one which makes excellent ros?, Pinot Noir. The flavors and textures that make this grape a favorite of wine aficionados across the globe is also what makes it a great rose. Here are piquant rose scents, expansive cherry, and spice to lead the charge when faced with chicken paprikash or veal osso buco.
