Avelino Vegas founded his namesake winery in 1950 in Santiuste de San Juan Bautista, province of Segovia. He originally began producing wines with local grapes, especially Verdejo. Once the Rueda Appellation was created in 1982, the family Vegas white wines really began to be recognized for their high quality. Today, the winery is run by the founder's sons and daughter in law. The Avelino Vegas winery is part of a larger group of wineries in Castilla y Leon, overall managing 1,100 hectares of vineyards.

The vinification process of this rose is as brief as possible to preserve the natural aromas and freshness of the grapes. The philosophy of Avelino Vegas is to craft high quality wines with a distinctive expression of their terroir. Tempranillo rose from the region is typically very savory, with notes of green peppercorn and even meaty notes of fried chicken, while Prieto Picudo brings more floral and fruity notes, including strawberry, raspberry, peach, and citrus. The blend gives aromas of great intensity, highlighting the raspberry, strawberry, and white fruit notes of the Prieto Picudo.

In the glass, this rose is a beautiful pale salmon-like pink, clean and bright. The palate is fresh, fruity, and has a long and pleasant finish. This wine is excellent as an aperitif, especially when enjoyed with good company. Pair this with a seafood salad, including shrimp and octopus. It is also excellent with other seafood dishes, such as paella or simply grilled fish. Or pair this rose with tacos on your next picnic.
