Languedoc, in the south of France, was the home of the troubadour poets who developed the tradition of courtly love. It is also the quintessential region for rose. Vineyards represent one third of all the land that is cultivated in Languedoc- Roussillon. This vineyard is located in the narrow valley of the Gellone River where it meets the steep-sided gorge of the Herault River, Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert is a picturesque medieval village located on the Chemin de St-Jacques pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostella. The name La Domitienne comes from Via Domitia, the road linking ancient Rome with Cadiz, Spain. This historic route allowed the Romans to control all of southern Gaul, modern day France, as well as providing routes of travel for these peripatetic poets and winemakers.

This vineyard, with about 300,000 hectares stretching out over the Pays d'Oc is the largest vineyard in the world by surface area. The vineyard's soil is known for its great diversity and favorable conditions for up to 31 varietals. The region enjoys outstanding sunshine suited to the Mediterranean climate which naturally favors grapes maturing. Thus, the wine growers of The Pays d'Oc know how to make the most of the region's natural resources by trying to find the best adequacy between soils and varietals to grow.

This is a classic Mediterranean rose made from Grenache Gris. It is a light pastel pink color in the glass. It is fruit forward and yet retains a natural elegance. The bouquet has notes of dried red cherry followed by light notes of herbs and earth. On the palate it is medium bodied, with persistent dry acidity, and pleasing flavors red berries flavors, and a fresh finish. This rose is best with poultry, grilled fish or simply as an aperitif.
